Marching Band Uniform Care
Uniform coordinator: Mary Crump
All students will be assigned uniforms each season. Students are responsible for the care and keeping of the uniform parts assigned to them. Each piece is numbered and a registry of the assignments is made. We attempt to fit each student as best as we can with the uniforms available. Students are expected to treat the uniform with respect, on and off their bodies. Uniforms are expensive to replace, pieces lost or damaged will be paid for by the student who has been assigned the pieces. Uniforms should always be clean and unwrinkled. They should be inspected for stains after each wearing, and washed as necessary. IT IS THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CARE AND CLEAN HIS/HER UNIFORM. Parents, please assist with this.
PANTS can be washed and treated with stain stick or other brands. NO BLEACH as it will yellow the fabric. Pants should be washed between wearings as needed with attention to hems and all stains. Hot water wash, dry on perm press setting or hang to air dry. May iron on a cooler setting and should be hung over jacket hanger keeping leg seams together to preserve crease.
JACKETS may be washed on gentle cycle in warm water after being turned inside out and zipped shut. NO BLEACH . ***SASH IS NOT WASHABLE-REMOVE FIRST*** Hang right side out on hanger to dry, do not machine dry, please. Please wash collar inserts as needed in hot water with stain fighters. These may be removed from jackets and then snapped back in place. They get oily from hair and necks so do wash them. Jackets should never be worn without a sleeved shirt underneath. Students should wear antiperspirants to avoid staining and odor transmission into jackets.
GAUNTLETS may be washed in hot water with stain fighters. NO BLEACH. Air dry to avoid losing buttons.
SHOES are to be cleaned after each use as necessary. If really dirty use Soft Scrub cleaner with bleach to clean. White shoe polish does not work.
Students must wear white or beige underpants only under the bib pants as they are somewhat see-through. White socks only with band shoes.
If your student is assigned GLOVES, they are to be washed, as needed, in hot water and dried. Gloves are stored in hat boxes at school, periodically they should be checked that they are clean. Each student is assigned one pair only per season, remember to return them.
Uniforms may be traded in for another if a student's size should change during season. Please ask a uniform mom for assistance in these matters. We encourage anyone having issues with their uniforms to report in with uniform mom's who will be happy to help. We are available before and during each event. Students who forget uniform pieces on days of competitions will be told to attempt to get their uniforms brought to them. If an emergency occurs and a student is unable to obtain their uniform we will try to provide another for the performance day only. Students may be told to have their uniform cleaned if a coordinator sees that they are stained. We ask your assistance in checking the uniform bags for neatness and cleanliness. Our goal is to maintain the Wakefield Warrior Marching Band Pride!
End of Season: All uniforms must be turned in at the end of the Band season in perfectly clean and unwrinkled condition in order to attend the Marching Band Banquet. No exceptions.
